about

In August, Joel Morales — aka Joel Jerome — announced that there would be a new album in 2017 from Dios, the Hawthorne-bred band that released albums in 2004, ’05 and ’09. The new song “Ain’t Nothin’ Here to Bother You No More” continued the streak that has seen Morales be prolific under his Joel Jerome name, as Babies on Acid and as a producer for many an L.A. band. But, as it turns out, there is some older material that Dios is unearthing and reworking for a upcoming release. “A lot of the recordings from albums we released were far from the realization of the demos (which many times were superior),” Morales says, “so i’ll be putting a couple volumes of ‘Dios on Dios’ for download only this upcoming year.”

The beautiful, world-weary “I’m Going Home (I’m Over Everybody)” is one of those — and if you want irony, here you go: “The song was originally written after Bush won re-election in 2004 and I along with all my friends were so disappointed, a very similar feeling after this year’s election. So I thought it was fitting to put this out now since it summed up how i was feeling then and now.

“Recently I added an outro section that sorta just felt like getting out when I was playing the song on piano [and] thinking about the Oakland fire, and feeling very very reflective and sad about the all-too-close reality of the event and of the great loss of creative life, for the people killed, their family and their friends the artist struggle. It’s fucking sad, and I just wish them all peace.”
